Our mission is to reduce the number of adoptable animals euthanized in overcrowded shelters, restore them to good health, and through adoption, provide them permanent, loving homes. -OFOSA
I’d like to introduce our newest PetWorks Partner, Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals, or OFOSA for short. They rescue dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters, provide them with safe, loving foster homes and ensure no adoptable animal in their care is euthanized. Based in Aloha, Oregon (near Portland), they are quite an exceptional group of 96 foster families and over 140 volunteers. Their main facility has an on-site Veterinary staff that performs spay and neuter surgeries as well as any necessary medical treatments for their new rescues.
Since their formation in 2002, this non-profit organization has:
- Rescued close to 10,000 dogs and cats
- Microchipped 5,000 dogs and cats
- Helped to fund 6,647 spays and neuters
- Provided funds for over 500 rehabilitative surgeries, from broken bones to heart surgery
As of the beginning of 2011, they have found homes for over 6,181 dogs and cats. In their relentless efforts to help these furry little buddies, they hold adoption events every weekend in 4 different PetSmart or PETCO stores. Check out their website for more information and for updates on their upcoming events. If you live in the area or happen to be in the neighborhood, stop by to see them. Who knows, you might even find your new best friend!
Next month, on Saturday March 5, 2011, they’re holding their 3rd annual Paws for a Cause. The benefit dinner includes a host bar, wall-of-wine, and a live and silent auction. It’s a wonderful event and all of the proceeds go to helping them in their rescue efforts. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
We are very excited to work with them and look forward to helping the loving pets they rescue find their forever homes.
