My 5 dogs LOVE LOVE LOVE your Organix wet food….

  2. Tracie Shoe says:

Why do you have to put Glucosamine (min.) 150 mg/kg
Chondroitin Sulfate (min.)* 75 mg/kg in your products?

It scares me for my 2 and 3 year old boxers. They are healthy and do not need extras. Can you reassure me that it’s not enough to do any damage or anything considering they are already young and healthy? I love everything about your dry adult organix except the extras that are not needed. Maybe for a senior dog dry kibble, but not adult dry kibble? Thank you.

Hi Tracie, the Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate in our formulas are at maitenance levels, and are not meant to treat larger health concerns. If you have further questions you can contact our customer service at 800-875-7518 Monday – Friday, 8am to 4pm PST.

My three bassets love the Natural Ultramix Weight Management formula. However, since the package change I’ve been unable to find the large bags of this variety at any petstore in the Sacramento, CA area. Previously I’ve purchased the 30lb. bags at PetSmart, however, since the new packaging has emerged the largest size that they no carry in their store of the weight management formula is 5.5 lbs., which doesn’t last me long. Is this just a temporary problem due to the package change? I’ve asked the employees at the store if they plan on getting any of the larger bags in, but they’ve been unable to find out.

  5. mary says:

Hi Amber, I’m sorry you haven’t been able to find a larger bag recently! Have you tried using our store locator on our site? If you are still having issues finding the right size bag, call our customer service line, and they can help find a specific location for you, please call us at 800-875-7518 Monday – Friday, 8am to 4pm PST. You can also purchase our products online!

I agree with Tracie Shoe, I’ve been feeding my dogs Organix wet and dry for quite some time and don’t remember the recipe in the old packaging containing these added supplements. I have an 18 year old mixed breed and an 11 year old Shiloh Shepherd with a degenerative spinal disease and a 1.5 year old Papillion and a 6 year old Pomeranian, with each having their individual dietary & vitamin requirements, I’d like to not have this in their food, unless I want to supplement it. I didn’t see a response to her question about any damage this may cause. Could someome please respond? Thank you.

  7. mary says:

Hi Teresa, the supplements in our Organix is necessary to ensure complete nutrition. If your are concerened about the amounts of individual substances, you can contact Customer Service and they can tell you the exact amounts, 800-875-7518 Monday – Friday, 8am to 4pm PST.

  8. We’ve been buying your cat foods for years now, and the critters love it. That’s why we were dismayed when we bought two bags today and found out that the price was the same, yet there wasn’t as much in the bag. And we were also annoyed that you’ve switched from the paper bags (recyclable) to the plastic bags (not recyclable). Those things mean a lot to us, and will factor into our decision whether to keep feeding them the CP foods or not. Thanks for listening!

  9. mary says:

    Hi Bobbi,
We’re so happy you and your kitties enjoy our food! As far as the new bags and sizes, it’s a frustrating situation for every one. You may have noticed the increase in cost of goods over the past few years – our competitors have and either increased product price or decreased the size of the bags a long time ago. Simply, we’ve held out as long as we could, but have finally needed to adjust to the reality of cost. We hope this is understandable. We switched from paper bags with a plastic lining to plastic bags to extend the product freshness. Although neither bag is recyclable (pet food bags with plastic liners aren’t technically recyclable), they are reusable!

  10. Hope says:

Previously your packages were made of paper with a plastic-like lining. I could re-use them to put cat litter in and then into the landfill or else burn them in the woodstove (plastic going into landfill, plastic going into the atmosphere).

Now your new bags are recyclable with a number 7. What does this mean? Is it recyclable w/regular plastics or is it considered a plastic bag and then only recyclable at certain places (for me, maybe a 4 hr drive to Ashland, OR, if and when I go there). Please do some research on this and get back to me here on the blog. Recycling is very important to me and the planet and also important to your other customers and I assume, your company. Thank you.

  11. mary says:

Hi Hope, We changed bag materials in order to maintain the highest level of product freshness. Although the new plastic bag is not the ideal solution when considering the environment, we have yet to find a bag that better serves both needs. Paper bags with the plastic liner are not recyclable, and also require considerably more resources to produce. Although our new plastic bags are not recyclable under most circumstances, we’ve had great success reusing them. For example, we have a mini-garden growing in our office, using empty Castor & Pollux bags as the container. We appreciate your concern over the change, and welcome any ideas you may have on how to reuse our bags!

  12. Spike says:

If the paper bags already have a plastic lining, isn’t that enough to keep the food fresh? Why produce more plastic waste than is necessary? The reason that i first bought your product was the mostly paper packaging. My cat loves the kibble, but if you can’t recycle the bags…

how about a good old-fashioned waxpaper lining made from recycled paper? then you could really claim “no one does natural & organic like we do”!

  13. mary says:

Hi Spike, We appreciate your feedback. We are always looking for ways to improve our packaging – both from an environmental and product safety sense. Although a biodegradable bag is on the horizon, it is not yet a reality for safe distribution of our product. In the meantime, there are several ways you can reuse the plastic bags. We currently have a container garden at our office, using all Organix and Ultramix bags. Another employee makes reusable grocery totes out of the bags. We support creative solutions!

Today I got an e-mail from Petco Corporation confirming what their local Petco store manager had told me. Petco stores will no longer carry Castor & Pollux products. I am disappointed in Petco but I will find another store or order it on line. My dog eats Organix. She has a sensitive stomach and Organix is approved by her vet as a high quality food.

  15. Kathy says:

A friend recommended your product for my dog Pepper, she has a sensitive digestive system and is prone to allergies. After purchasing a bag I noticed there is a substantial amount of added nutrients and was wondering if the VitaHound daily supplement she currently receives was still necessary.

  16. mary says:

Hi Kathy, It depends on the content analysis of the VitaHound. Our products are formulated to be complete, and the addition of a supplement should be approved by your vet. Thanks for your support!

  17. Judy says:

I have a dog rescue in Prescott, WI and we use the new plastic food bags (once emptied, of course) to collect donated pet food, toys, cat litter and other pet supplies for our local food shelf. It gives us an opportunity to discuss pet nutrition with the public. The new bags format make it easy to educate pet owners of the importance of how to read the ingredient label (no more paper wrinkles) and how to spot a quality, well made pet food. Castor and Pollux should be applauded for choosing the new bag style. There are so many more ways to reuse the new bag and I am all about keeping my dogs food as fresh as possible. Love the idea about using them as planters!

  18. mary says:

What fantastic feedback! Thank you for those great ideas!

  19. Hi again! I’m wondering if you recently changed the formula of the Indoor cat Organix? My cats seem to be not loving the last bag we bought. Thanks! bc

  20. Mary says:

Hi Bobbie, I apologize for the delay! I checked with our manufacturing department, and our ORGANIX Indoor Cat formula has not changed. How has your cat been doing this past week?

  21. Penny says:

My 15 year old dog is doing really well on your food. More alive, and less stool.
The old cans had a picture of the contents, and the new ones don’t.
My dogs prefer the ground up type of food, rather than the lumps with gravy.
How am I supposed to know what is in the can?

  22. Mary says:

Sorry for the confusion Penny! All of our Natural Ultramix wet formulas are a “stew”, and all of our ORGANIX wet formulas are pate style, so it sounds like you have an ORGANIX pup!
